Arrived at my hotel at 23:30 last night and stumbled upon this Irish Pub while walking the city a bit. Enjoyed a Brooklyn Lager and will be back today.

We were pleasantly surprised by this little pub in very tourist heavy midtown. They had a table for our group of 7 within minutes. For starters we had the Bavarian Pretzel which was tasty, a tender plate of Calimari, and Beer Battered Mozzarella Sticks which the kids loved. For dinner the Shepherds Pie was a favorite and the burgers were cooked to order. The fish and chips were good. The chicken sandwich and chicken strips were very well received by our kids. Service was quick and super attentive. We would definitely go again.

Zuzu is such a wonderful bartender. He made sure we were served and made sure we got our food. And always make sure we have a good time. I appreciate his service.

This little Irish pub is one of a few in midtown, along with Blaggards, Westbury, Mulligans, etc. It's snuggled close to the bustling Liberty, but a small walk away from the train station. They offer an excellent deal on happy hour, and also lunch. Their lunch comes with a free drink, which can be beer, sangria, and so on. Even if not the lunch specials, their prices are reasonable for this area considering it is a tourist hub. It's not totally gouging your wallet, which is saying a lot. The staff are a bit sparse at times and they did get an order for our table wrong once. But the food is very good and they have a fun amount of sport betting events every year. In fact, their televisions pretty much play only sports all the time. I recommend their chicken sandwich. It's overall a great place to have lunch in the area if you're not looking for something too out of the ordinary.

I don’t go out often, but when I decide to make plans with a good group I’ve grown to choose Playwright. The atmosphere is great and the service from Zuzu more than welcoming enough to make me want to stay all night. 10/10 would recommend

Staying in a hotel opposite we tried all the resteraunt in the area and ended up coming back for dinner 4 times in our 10 day stay and had drinks /coffee on two afternoons. It can be very busy and a little on the noisy side but it is so friendly its great to see the sports fans enjoying themselves. Carson and Muzul managed to find us a table on each visit and we ate our way through the menu. Its hard to single out one dish that is the best but we could not fault the New York steak or the filet. The bangers and shepards pie were as good as you get at home. Will certainly recommend it as a must go when in New York. We will not forget you

Nothing good to say about the bartenders. Went to this bar several nights in a row and EACH time the service was subpar. Bartenders were rude and obnoxious - would def pass on this place if you are looking for a bar to kill some time or have a beer

Beware of mouldy food and check your bill!!! I had a Burger and the tomato was moldy (check the picture) When I talk to the waitress, he said, that isn’t that bad. At the end I had to pay the full price and they tried to fool me with the bill. Never eat and drink at this location!!!

So, I stumbled upon The Playwright Irish Pub on a lazy Sunday night, and boy, was I pleasantly surprised! Despite it being the end of the weekend, the place was buzzing with life, definitely not your typical sleepy Sunday scene. The staff were super welcoming, adding to the already warm vibe of the place. And let's talk drinks – they were top-notch! From classics to creative concoctions, they had it all, and they were all delicious. It's the kind of spot where you can just kick back with your pals, enjoy some great drinks, and shoot the breeze. All in all, a solid choice for a laid-back hangout sesh. Cheers to The Playwright Irish Pub for a memorable evening, I would definitely visit again! 🍻

It is more or less cheap for this part of the city. And you notice that in the food. Not being bad at all, the steak I had was a bit tasteless and not done as ordered. In any case, it's good for the price and you get what you paid for.

I had a wonderful evening at Playwright. I met the owner John and was immediately struck by his warm, welcoming demeanor. As we chatted, his passion for craft beer and meeting people became evident - he's been in the industry for over two decades and knows his brews inside and out. The pub itself has this perfect balance of cozy traditional charm and modern comfort, with rich wooden furnishings and soft ambient lighting that creates an inviting atmosphere. The beer selection is impressive, with both local craft options and carefully chosen international brews. John recommended their Brooklyn beer which turned out to be a perfect choice. What really sets Playwright apart, though, is how John has created a space that feels like a neighborhood living room. Throughout the evening, I noticed him greeting regulars by name and taking time to help newcomers discover new favorites from their tap list. The background music was kept at just the right level for conversation, and the crowd was a friendly mix of locals and visitors. If you're looking for a pub that combines exceptional beer with genuine hospitality, Playwright is a must-visit. John's attention to detail and commitment to quality shows in everything from the perfectly poured pints to the well-maintained draft lines. I'll definitely be returning soon.
