I’ve been visiting Pete’s Tavern on and off for 10+ years now. I even lived just down the street on 18th and 1st for a bit and visited even more frequently at that time. So, it is safe to say, this review comes with a nostalgia bias. I’m surprised I hadn’t left a review before but maybe it was on an old account or something. Regardless, here are some details from my most recent visit in 2024. We started with a glass of the house ale! It tastes lighter than it looks. I’m not a fan of dark heavy beers so this hit the spot for me. On this particular visit we skipped the appetizers, however, I’ve had their Baked Truffle Mac & Cheese and Homemade Veal Meatballs fairly recently and enjoyed them! For dinner, our group had the Gnocchi Spinach Pesto, Chicken Parmigiana, and Three BBQ Brisket Sliders. All were great! Gnocchi was great for any vegetarians in your group. The Chicken Parm was a big dish and I probably should have had leftovers but I was starving. Lastly, I love the updated bathrooms! Although I appreciate the older bar bathrooms sometimes, it was nice to have an easy and clean bathroom experience. I hope you enjoy as much as I do should you visit!

Pete’s was as good as ever yesterday. Amazing food, great service, and incredible atmosphere—so much history at Pete’s. Gary is the best—thank you for reserving us the infamous O’Henry’s booth! We recommend Pete’s to all of our friends traveling to Manhattan from Arizona, and it’s a must stop for us when we are there.

Lively old school pub with traditional British and American food. It's typically pretty crowded in the bar area, but I was able to get a table on two separate occasions during week of Xmas. They go all out on Xmas decorations. Service can be a little slow, due to how busy they are, but everyone is friendly and the food is very good. Definitely worth stopping in for a quick drink/bite, especially if you're staying at the W hotel nearby

Pete's Tavern, a historic landmark in Gramercy, has an undeniable charm and ambiance that transports you to a bygone era. The wood-paneled walls, vintage decor, and warm lighting create an inviting atmosphere that speaks to its storied past. However, while the setting feels special, the food itself left us underwhelmed. We ordered the Gramercy Burger and fish and chips, both classic pub choices. Unfortunately, neither dish was served hot, and the flavors were somewhat underwhelming. Pete’s Tavern is worth a visit for its ambiance and history alone, but if you're looking for a standout meal, it might be best to keep expectations moderate.

Wanted to experience the oldest tavern in NYC with their christmas flair . It didn't disappoint. It was however very crowded so be prepared during the season .

Solid food experience (see more comments). Our server was "meh" (she didn't understand we wanted a taste of a draft beer, so brought a full glass, and did not check back with us after food came out). The burger ("build your own" = added cheddar, mushrooms and bacon) was delicious and the fries were perfect (crispy but not overcooked). The spaghetti bolognese was very good! I had almost given up ordering bolognese based on two previous restaurants that served absolute junk for their version, so Pete's redeemed bolognese for me! Not a huge wine list, but we did find two IPAs that were good.

Went here for dinner and drinks before a night out on a Saturday. It was so crowded and busy, but we still got great service!! We reserved a table ahead of time which made a huge difference. It was cool that they had options for sitting in the dining room or the bar room. We sat in the bar room so we were immersed in the high energy while still getting to sit and order food. Mozzarella things were 10/10. Highly recommended- will be returning.

I went here one evening a week before Christmas 2024. It was beautifully set up- inside as well as outside. I hope the videos I upload do it justice. It felt so festive! I just enjoyed a lovely lager and some truffle fries - basic stuff but good. I was also pretty full from other meals I was eating when in NYC. Majorly went here for the vibes and those did not disappoint. Great service, good vibe! Shall come back to try more food. P.S. Make a reservation if you can. We walked in and got lucky with a table as it seemed like a busy time.

This is truly a must-visit spot to include on your New York City itinerary. While the food may not be exceptional, it's still decent. The vibe and decor transport you to another era, which is really special. It's fascinating to see the walls adorned with photos of artists and celebrities who have dined here over the years. This is my second visit, and I can confidently say I’ll be returning again!

Walk into Pete's Tavern and you can't help but get the feeling of an historical event happening before your eyes. Well it did for me... the cozy, rustic ornate decor is a real and welcoming atmosphere as are the greeters and servers who work here. We were even fortunate to meet Pete the owner (not his real name) and share a few memories when he dropped off a couple beers to our table. Pete's Tavern is a pleasant blast from the past and we were so glad to have lunch here! The menu is full of Irish specialties, like shepherds pie, chicken pot pie, fish and chips, etc. The tavern ale was smooth and refreshing, the perfect pairing for our lunch. Lots of others on tap including wines and spirits ( see pic's ). Keep in mind this is a bar first and restaurant second. Looking back on our selections although they were good I feel a handheld or burger would have been the better choice. Even though all our picks were very good on their own, however, together since we shared everything they didn't complement each other. ( Hence one less star for the limited lunch menu and our fault for the selections) But, with that said, the gnocchi (cooked well) with spinach pesto was a pleasant surprise, nice flavor, served hot, and something we would recommend, as we would the zucchini chips too and onion rings, both very good.

I had the blackened Ahi Tuna which was outstanding. My husband had the Pesto Gnocchi which was also outstanding. Very friendly staff had a great dinner. Wanted to try desert but was too full. I recommend eating here. Plus the history of this place is awesome. O Henry and the gift of the Magi, great story.
